3-Step LinkedIn Guide for 2024
The Expertise Blueprint: Get Started on LinkedIn in 2024
Early and Mid-career executives often face a crossroads where advancing further requires more than technical skills; it requires expertise.
Expertise is your leverage. If you can build deep expertise in an area needed in tech companies, you can earn large amounts of equity and accelerate your time to financial freedom. However, building expertise is not enough. You need to be able to showcase it for others to see. If you build your expertise and no one knows it or can see it then what?
This 3-step guide is designed to help you harness your experiences and skills, transforming them into recognized expertise.
In the rapidly evolving tech landscape, expertise isn't just about knowing your fieldโit's about being a thought leader. This guide will help you position yourself as an indispensable asset in your industry.
Today the easiest way to get started is on the social / business platform known as LinkedIn.
A 3-Step Guide to Get Started on LinkedIn in 2024
Step 1: Establish Your Digital Persona
Start with a clear and professional headshot
Create a banner on your LinkedIn profile to declare your expertise.
The banner should succinctly state the results you deliver, such as " Building High-Performing IT Teams in SaaS Companies."
Your Headline Should Declare Your Expertise. This is not just your job title; it's the unique value you bring.
Check out my LinkedIn profile as an example, connect with me, and DM me with any questions.
Step 2: Share Your Knowledge Journey
Regularly post insights on LinkedIn. Share not just your successes but also your learning process. This shows authenticity and builds your reputation as someone who's continually evolving.
Content should range from industry insights to personal challenges and achievements in your field.
Start out posting 2x a Week and start a habit
Step 3: Engage with Others and Iterate Based on Feedback
Pay attention to the responses and questions your posts receive. This feedback is a goldmine for understanding what your audience finds valuable and what questions people have.
Use this input to refine your content strategy, focusing more on topics that resonate with your network.
Connect with people in your work to build a valuable network and engage with their posts. By supporting them they will see what you are up to.
It Worked for Me
During my career in IT, I learned the power of being more than just a skilled professional. By sharing my journey, challenges, and insights, I established myself as a thought leader, which opened new doors and opportunities.
While this was not always on LinkedIn, it was in professional networking groups and speaking. All of these opportunities to share my expertise created opportunities for me.
When people know you and what you can do, the opportunities come to you.
TL;DR:
Your digital presence is your global business card. Invest in it.
Sharing your learning journey builds authenticity and trust.
Feedback is crucial for growth. Use it to fine-tune your message and approach.
Action Step:
Begin today by revising your LinkedIn profile to reflect your targeted expertise. Then, share two posts a week about your professional journey or insights.
By following these steps, you'll build your expertise and create a personal brand that speaks volumes about your value in the tech industry.
As always, thank you for tuning in and reading.
Your engagement and feedback are what drives this community.
Hit reply and let me know what resonated with you, or if you have any questions.
I'm here to help you navigate this exciting journey.
See you next week!

Hiring Companies Stay Current on Compensation Trends and So Should You!
Knowing your value in the market is key to getting paid what your worth.
Here are some current articles that have been published around compensation trends that are important to understand.
Levels.fyi -2023 End of Year Pay Report 2023: Make it an annual recurring task to review this report. It will provide you overall trends and where the market is moving. In 2023, new graduate and entry level roles saw a large decrease in salary, the most competitive opportunities still compensate highly for top talent
FairOffer.ai : This is a new innovative data-science based compensation tool with searches available to individuals. Presently I am still testing to see if it is inline with other more established services. It looks good at first glance.
AI Engineering Pays 2x Higher than Standard Software Engineering: I came across this article published late last year (November 2023), and it shows compelling evidence that having some AI experience will dramatically increase current compensation. How will this start affecting business roles? Stick around and find out.
The data reinforces my thesis that building expertise in a role and discipline will continue to deliver higher compensation packages in technology.
